AN ACT
1 Amending Title 23 (Domestic Relations) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, further providing for effect of death
3 of either party for purposes of alimony.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 3707 of Title 23 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 3707. Effect of death of either party.
9 Upon the death of the payee party, the right to receive
10 alimony pursuant to this chapter shall cease and the estate of
11 the payee party shall have a right of action to collect any
12 arrears in alimony incurred by the payor party prior to the date
13 of death. Upon the death of the payor party, the obligation to
14 pay alimony shall cease unless otherwise indicated in an
15 agreement between the parties or an order of court.
16 Section 2. This act shall apply to persons dying on or after
1 April 16, 2000.
2 Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
