HOUSE BILL

        AS AMENDED ON THIRD CONSIDERATION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
           JUNE 25, 2003

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making appropriations to the Trustees of the Berean Training and
     2     Industrial School at Philadelphia for operation and
     3     maintenance expenses and for payment of debt service.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  (a)  The sum of $1,392,000 is hereby appropriated
     7  to the Trustees of the Berean Training and Industrial School at
     8  Philadelphia for the fiscal year July 1, 2003, to June 30, 2004,
     9  for operation and maintenance of the school.
    10     (b)  The sum of $85,000 is hereby appropriated to the
    11  Trustees of the Berean Training and Industrial School for the
    12  fiscal year July 1, 2003, to June 30, 2004, for payment of debt
    13  services to the Commonwealth.
    14     Section 2.  Payments to the Berean Training and Industrial
    15  School on account of the appropriations in section 1 shall be
    16  made by the Secretary of Education in equal quarterly payments.
    17     Section 3.  The Berean Training and Industrial School shall


     1  provide full, complete and accurate information as may be
     2  required by the Department of Education or the chairman or the
     3  minority chairman of the Appropriations Committee of the Senate
     4  or the chairman or the minority chairman of the Appropriations
     5  Committee of the House of Representatives.
     6     SECTION 4.  ANY MONEYS APPROPRIATED BY THIS ACT THAT ARE       <--
     7  APPLIED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS TO STUDENTS, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
     8  LIMITED TO, STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, SHALL BE APPLIED IN
     9  SUCH A MANNER THAT 75% OF THE APPROPRIATED FUNDS ARE USED FOR
    10  STUDENTS WHO ARE RESIDENTS OF THIS COMMONWEALTH.
    11     Section 4 5.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003, or      <--
    12  immediately, whichever is later.
