AN ACT
1 Amending Title 53 (Municipalities Generally) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, providing for mandatory referendum.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Title 53 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
6 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
7 § 8707. Mandatory referendum.
8 Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, every
9 governing body that has not conducted a public referendum
10 pursuant to section 8703 (relating to adoption of referendum) as
11 of the effective date of this section shall do so during the
12 next municipal election. This section shall expire on January 1,
13 2005.
14 Section 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 2004.
