        INTRODUCED BY ORIE, LOGAN, STOUT, COSTA, KUKOVICH, HOLL,
           TARTAGLIONE, GERLACH, O'PAKE, LEMMOND, A. WILLIAMS, MURPHY,
           CONTI, MOWERY, SCHWARTZ, KITCHEN, BODACK, BRIGHTBILL,
           GREENLEAF, WOZNIAK, MUSTO, BOSCOLA AND STACK,
           SEPTEMBER 20, 2002

        REFERRED TO INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS, SEPTEMBER 20, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the President of the United States to reinstate $150
     2     million of funding for firefighters.

     3     WHEREAS, Every day firefighters and emergency services
     4  personnel risk their lives and well-being to protect our homes
     5  and businesses; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Congress recently approved $5.1 billion for
     7  homeland security, including $150 million of funding for
     8  training and equipment for firefighters; and
     9     WHEREAS, The President blocked the entire amount, thereby
    10  cutting off the desperately needed funds, some of which have
    11  already been requested by fire departments; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    13  urge the President of the United States to reinstate the $150
    14  million of Federal moneys earmarked for equipment and training
    15  for firefighters across the country; and be it further
    16     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to


     1  the President of the United States, to presiding officers of
     2  each House of Congress and to each member of Congress from
     3  Pennsylvania.
