A RESOLUTION 1 Designating May 7, 2002, as "Stand Up for Rural Pennsylvania 2 Day." 3 WHEREAS, One-fifth of America's population lives in rural 4 areas; and 5 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to one of the largest rural 6 populations in the nation; and 7 WHEREAS, The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), 8 the nation's leading nonprofit community development 9 organization, through its RURAL LISC component, is coordinating 10 a national "Stand Up for Rural America" coalition to help rural 11 community developers gain resources and policy support; and 12 WHEREAS, RURAL LISC, through financial support from the PEW 13 Charitable Trusts, has committed $18.5 million in funding to 14 eight community development corporations to develop better 15 housing, job facilities and communities in rural Pennsylvania 16 over the next five years; and
1 WHEREAS, The Center for Rural Pennsylvania, a legislative 2 service agency of the General Assembly, is serving on the LISC 3 Rural Pennsylvania Initiative Steering Committee to assist in 4 the development and implementation of this project; and 5 WHEREAS, Nationwide, May 7, 2002, has been chosen as the day 6 to celebrate rural America and the accomplishments of the rural 7 coalition; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the Senate shall hereby designate May 7, 2002, 9 as "Stand Up for Rural Pennsylvania Day."
