A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing October 15, 2001, as "Emergency Services Personnel 2 Day" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, major catastrophic events 4 occurred in New York City and Washington, D.C.; and 5 WHEREAS, Another tragedy occurred in Somerset County, 6 Pennsylvania, where a hijacked airplane crashed, causing a 7 significant loss of life; and 8 WHEREAS, Seventy-eight teams from the Pennsylvania Urban 9 Search and Rescue Task Force have traveled to New York to assist 10 rescue efforts; and 11 WHEREAS, Approximately 7,500 volunteer firefighters and 12 health care professionals from this Commonwealth have offered 13 their time, talents and expertise, and 4,800 Pennsylvania 14 firefighters have been registered to be called upon for further 15 assistance at the catastrophe sites; and 16 WHEREAS, Also ready to assist rescue efforts are teams from 17 184 Pennsylvania emergency service organizations; and
1 WHEREAS, There are 2,400 volunteer fire companies protecting 2 this Commonwealth; and 3 WHEREAS, Every day communities of this Commonwealth rely on 4 65,000 volunteer firefighters to protect our homes and 5 businesses; and 6 WHEREAS, Every day firefighters and emergency services 7 personnel risk their lives and well-being to ensure the safety 8 of our friends, families and loved ones; therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize October 15, 2001, as 10 "Emergency Services Personnel Day" in Pennsylvania and encourage 11 Pennsylvanians to recognize the readiness and service of these 12 courageous men and women.
