A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of May 21 through 27, 2001, as "Good 2 Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania and recognizing the business 3 of chemistry for its dynamism and innovativeness. 4 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a significant 5 contributor to the economy of Pennsylvania employing 71,000 6 people; and 7 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in Pennsylvania exports 8 $3.9 billion in products annually; and 9 WHEREAS, The value of industry production by the business of 10 chemistry in Pennsylvania is $19.3 billion; and 11 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in Pennsylvania offers 12 family-sustaining jobs averaging $66,899 annually; and 13 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in Pennsylvania provides 14 support to numerous endowments, foundations and scholarship 15 organizations throughout Pennsylvania; and 16 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a leader in safety with 17 a safety performance record 4.5 times above the average of all 18 other United States manufacturing industries combined; and
1 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is this nation's largest 2 investor in private sector funding of research and development 3 initiatives and chemistry industry scientists and researchers 4 account for one in seven patents filed in the United States 5 every year; and 6 WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in Pennsylvania has 7 reduced core toxic reduction inventory emissions by 68% since 8 1988; and 9 WHEREAS, The evolving science of chemistry enhances our 10 everyday quality of life by providing potable drinking water, 11 medicines, clothing, housing and transportation to name a few; 12 therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of May 21 14 through 27, 2001, as "Good Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania.
