AN ACT 1 Directing the Secretary of Health to educate students on certain 2 health issues by advertising on a school satellite system. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Short title. 6 This act shall be known and may be cited as the School 7 Satellite System Education Act. 8 Section 2. Definitions. 9 The following words and phrases when used in this act shall 10 have the meanings given to them in this section unless the 11 context clearly indicates otherwise: 12 "Secretary." The Secretary of Health. 13 "School satellite system." A system of televised news 14 programming that is directed primarily at children in middle 15 school and high school and that is transmitted to such schools 16 through satellite technology. The term includes, but is not 17 limited to, Channel One, or its successor.
1 Section 3. Duties of secretary. 2 (a) Promotion of healthy living issues.--The secretary shall 3 promulgate healthy living issues, including, but not limited to, 4 the health risks of tobacco, alcohol and drug use, and the 5 importance of adequate exercise, nutrition and prenatal care 6 through the means of educational advertising on a school 7 satellite system. 8 (b) Contracts.--In order to comply with the duty imposed 9 under subsection (a), the secretary may enter into contracts 10 with: 11 (1) Marketing agents to design and produce 12 advertisements for broadcast on school satellite systems. 13 (2) Contractors that provide school satellite systems to 14 public schools in this Commonwealth. 15 (c) Funding.--The secretary may utilize or accept funding 16 from any available source to perform its powers and duties under 17 this act. 18 Section 4.
