THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIA


SENATE BILL

No. 69 Session of 2001

                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for leaving the Pennsylvania Turnpike at other than
     2     established interchanges under emergency conditions.

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  Leaving turnpike for emergency repairs.
     6     A person operating a passenger motor vehicle, as defined by
     7  the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission regulations, experiencing
     8  emergency difficulties due to the malfunction of the vehicle
     9  while traversing the turnpike is hereby authorized, under
    10  supervision of the Pennsylvania State Police, to leave the
    11  turnpike at an available exit located adjacent to a turnpike
    12  garage area to secure local service for the emergency repairs
    13  without the necessity of being towed.
    14  Section 2.  Payment of toll.
    15     A person availing himself of section 1 shall, prior to
    16  leaving the Pennsylvania Turnpike, pay to the Pennsylvania State
    17  Police supervising the exit of the vehicle an amount equal to


     1  the total charge for traversing the full length of the turnpike.
     2  Section 3.  Effective date.
     3     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
