        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 8, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the 30th Anniversary of the Epilepsy Foundations of
     2     Western/Central and Eastern Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Epilepsy is the third most common neurological
     4  disorder, affecting 2.3 million Americans; and
     5     WHEREAS, According to the Epilepsy Foundations of
     6  Pennsylvania, an estimated 120,000 Pennsylvania citizens have
     7  been diagnosed with epilepsy or seizure disorder; and
     8     WHEREAS, A growing number of young children and senior
     9  citizens are diagnosed every year with epilepsy or seizure
    10  disorder; and
    11     WHEREAS, Nearly 70% of all epilepsy cases have no known


     1  cause; and
     2     WHEREAS, The Epilepsy Foundation of Western/Central
     3  Pennsylvania and the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania
     4  were established in 1972 to assist patients who have epilepsy
     5  and to provide the general public with education about epilepsy;
     6  and
     7     WHEREAS, The Epilepsy Foundation of Western/Central
     8  Pennsylvania and the Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania
     9  provide valuable outreach, support and education services in
    10  communities across this Commonwealth; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    12  30th Anniversary of the Epilepsy Foundations of Pennsylvania;
    13  and be it further
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
    15  Pennsylvanians affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders and
    16  their caregivers and advocates for their courage and commitment;
    17  and be it further
    18     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    19  the Epilepsy Foundation of Western/Central Pennsylvania and the
    20  Epilepsy Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania.
