        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 27, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Governor to proclaim the seven days of April 7
     2     through 13, 2002, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of
     3     the Holocaust."

     4     WHEREAS, From 1933 to 1945, six million Jews were murdered in
     5  the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic pogrom of genocide,
     6  and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and
     7     WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always
     8  remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis so that such
     9  horrors are never repeated and should continually rededicate
    10  themselves to the principle of equal justice for all people; and

     1     WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should remain
     2  eternally vigilant against all tyranny and recognize that
     3  bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and
     4     WHEREAS, April 9, 2002, has been designated internationally
     5  as a "Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust,"
     6  known as Yom Hashoah; and
     7     WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the people of this
     8  Commonwealth to join in the international commemoration;
     9  therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize
    11  Governor Mark S. Schweiker to proclaim the seven days of April 7
    12  through 13, 2002, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the
    13  Holocaust" in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in the hope
    14  that we will strive always to overcome prejudice and inhumanity
    15  through education, vigilance and resistance.
