        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 11, 2002

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring and congratulating former President Ronald Reagan and
     2     Nancy Reagan on their 50th wedding anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, On March 4, 2002, former President Ronald Reagan and
     4  Nancy Reagan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary; and
     5     WHEREAS, Since their marriage at the Little Brown Church in
     6  the Valley, where actor William Holden served as best man, the
     7  Reagans have been nearly inseparable; and
     8     WHEREAS, While the former first lady did not receive the
     9  traditional anniversary letter from the 91-year-old former
    10  president, the Reagans shared a quiet time at home in Bel-Air,
    11  California, likely enjoying a chocolate cake; and
    12     WHEREAS, A celebration of the couple's golden wedding
    13  anniversary was held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library;
    14  and
    15     WHEREAS, Since the former president made public in 1994 his

     1  affliction with Alzheimer's disease, he has made rare public
     2  appearances, all the while being steadfastly attended to by
     3  Nancy Reagan; and
     4     WHEREAS, The beloved 40th President of the United States and
     5  the former first lady served this nation with dignity and grace;
     6  therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor and
     8  congratulate former President Reagan and Mrs. Reagan on the
     9  occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.
