        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 25, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the Governor to proclaim October 10, 2001, as "Emergency
     2     Nurses Day" in Pennsylvania; and urging all citizens of this
     3     Commonwealth to join in its observance.

     4     WHEREAS, October 10, 2001, has been designated as "National
     5  Emergency Nurses Day"; and
     6     WHEREAS, Emergency nurses are an extremely vital part of the
     7  health care and emergency medical care delivery systems in this
     8  Commonwealth; and
     9     WHEREAS, Emergency nurses are committed to providing quality
    10  emergency care; and
    11     WHEREAS, Emergency nurses have demonstrated their

     1  professionalism and continually strive to upgrade standards of
     2  practice and improve services; and
     3     WHEREAS, Emergency nurses practice in a variety of settings,
     4  including rural and urban hospitals, trauma centers, clinics,
     5  health maintenance organizations, industrial institutions,
     6  military settings, ambulatory centers and aeromedical and ground
     7  transport vehicles; and
     8     WHEREAS, There are several subspecialities of emergency
     9  nursing, including pediatrics, trauma management, prehospital
    10  care, military, rural aeromedical and trauma; and
    11     WHEREAS, The collaboration of emergency nurses is also sought
    12  for educational programs, disaster planning, organ and tissue
    13  procurement, injury prevention campaigns and prehospital care;
    14  and
    15     WHEREAS, Approximately 45% of all emergency nurses work in
    16  hospitals and there are more than 4,700 hospital-based emergency
    17  departments and more than 90,000 emergency nurses in this
    18  country; and
    19     WHEREAS, It is fitting to join the national observance
    20  recognizing these dedicated people; therefore be it
    21     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the Governor
    22  to proclaim October 10, 2001, as "Emergency Nurses Day" in
    23  Pennsylvania; and be it further
    24     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all citizens
    25  of this Commonwealth to join in its observance; and be it
    26  further
    27     RESOLVED, That before October 10, 2001, a copy of this
    28  resolution be transmitted to Governor Thomas J. Ridge.
