        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 4, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Governor to proclaim the seven days of April
     2     19 through 26, 2001, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims
     3     of the Holocaust."

     4     WHEREAS, From 1933 to 1945 six million Jews were murdered in
     5  the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic program of genocide,
     6  and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and
     7     WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always
     8  remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis so that such
     9  horrors are never repeated and should continually rededicate
    10  themselves to the principle of equal justice for all people; and
    11     WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should remain


     1  eternally vigilant against all tyranny and recognize that
     2  bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and
     3     WHEREAS, April 19, 2001, has been designated internationally
     4  as a "Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust,"
     5  known as Yom Hashoah; and
     6     WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the people of this
     7  Commonwealth to join in the international commemoration;
     8  therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize
    10  Governor Thomas J. Ridge to proclaim the seven days of April 19
    11  through 26, 2001, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the
    12  Holocaust" in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in the hope
    13  that we will strive always to overcome prejudice and inhumanity
    14  through education, vigilance and resistance.
