           BUXTON, CAPPABIANCA, CRUZ, CURRY, DALEY, DeLUCA, FRANKEL,
           GRUCELA, HERSHEY, HORSEY, JAMES, JOSEPHS, LaGROTTA,
           LEVDANSKY, MANDERINO, McCALL, PETRARCA, PRESTON, ROBINSON,
           SHANER, STABACK, STURLA, SURRA, THOMAS, TRICH, WASHINGTON,
           C. WILLIAMS, J. WILLIAMS, YOUNGBLOOD, MELIO, COLAFELLA AND
           CORRIGAN, APRIL 3, 2001

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, APRIL 3, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the Committee on Education to investigate any
     2     incidents relating to racial relations occurring on the
     3     campuses of the Commonwealth's colleges and universities.

     4     WHEREAS, The news media have reported several incidents on
     5  the campuses of the Commonwealth's colleges and universities
     6  that indicate possible or potential racial relations problems on
     7  those campuses; and
     8     WHEREAS, It appears that within the colleges and universities
     9  which receive direct institutional appropriations from the
    10  General Assembly there exists racial segregation and unlawful
    11  discrimination; and
    12     WHEREAS, Such segregation and discrimination would violate
    13  Federal and State civil rights and equal opportunity laws; and
    14     WHEREAS, The Commonwealth is committed to protecting the
    15  rights of all of its citizens to be free from discrimination on
    16  the basis of race, religion, sex or national origin; therefore

     1  be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the
     3  Committee on Education to investigate any alleged or reported
     4  incidents relating to racial relations and any appropriate
     5  responses thereto occurring on the campuses of the
     6  Commonwealth's colleges and universities; and be it further
     7     RESOLVED, That the committee report its findings and any
     8  recommendations for legislation to the House of Representatives.
