A RESOLUTION 1 Designating March 18, 2001, as "Public Defenders Day" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Fundamental issues of fairness and decency require 4 any responsible government to provide its citizens with equal 5 access to the courts and a legal defense against charges brought 6 against them; and 7 WHEREAS, Public defenders throughout this Commonwealth have 8 diligently and effectively carried out this responsibility, 9 often despite substantial obstacles and negative public 10 sentiment; and 11 WHEREAS, The necessity and value of this service is 12 recognized and appreciated by the legislative and executive 13 branches of State government; therefore be it
