        AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY, HOUSE OF
           REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED, NOVEMBER 12, 2002

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled,
     2     as amended, "An act relating to counties of the first, third,
     3     fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending,
     4     revising, consolidating and changing the laws relating
     5     thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by counties,
     6     including authorizing imposition of an excise tax on the
     7     rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first class; and
     8     providing for regional renaissance initiatives," further
     9     providing for official records of coroner.

    10     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    11  hereby enacts as follows:
    12     Section 1.  Section 1251 of the act of August 9, 1955
    13  (P.L.323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended to read:
    14     Section 1251.  Official Records of Coroner.--Every coroner,
    15  within thirty (30) days after the end of each year, shall


     1  deposit all of his official records and papers for the preceding
     2  year in the office of the prothonotary for the inspection of all
     3  persons interested therein[.]; provided that the coroner may not
     4  release any information which tends to or will compromise an
     5  ongoing investigation conducted by his office or any Federal,
     6  State or local investigative LAW ENFORCEMENT agency.              <--
     7     Section 2.  This act shall be retroactive to September 11,     <--
     8  2001.
     9     SECTION 2.  THIS ACT SHALL BE CONSTRUED TO CLARIFY EXISTING    <--
    10  LAW, NOT CHANGE IT.
    11     SECTION 3.  THIS ACT SHALL APPLY TO ANY INFORMATION WHICH A
    12  CORONER MAY HAVE ON AND AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT AND
    13  TO INFORMATION WHICH IS PENDING BEFORE A COURT ON AND AFTER THE
    14  EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT.
    15     Section 3 4.  This act shall take effect immediately.          <--
