        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS, JUNE 19, 2001

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making an appropriation to the Department of Conservation and
     2     Natural Resources for allocation to the Bureau of Topographic
     3     and Geologic Survey to conduct coal-related research.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  The sum of $1,000,000, or as much thereof as may
     7  be necessary, is hereby appropriated to the Department of
     8  Conservation and Natural Resources for the fiscal year July 1,
     9  2001, to June 30, 2002, for allocation to the Bureau of
    10  Topographic and Geologic Survey to purchase and operate data
    11  processing equipment and appropriate geologic software and
    12  graphic devices to generate derivative maps and analyze
    13  Pennsylvania coals and other mineral-related data, and to
    14  acquire facilities and equipment to conduct laboratory research
    15  to characterize the geochemical nature of Pennsylvania coals.
    16  The Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey shall cooperate


     1  with the Pennsylvania Mining and Mineral Resources Research
     2  Institute to the maximum extent possible in the purchase and use
     3  of facilities and equipment for the conduct of State coal-
     4  related research and analyses in order to avoid the duplication
     5  of effort and expense.
     6     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001.
