AN ACT
1 Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
2 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, providing for
3 restrictions on profits from jury service.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Title 42 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
7 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
8 § 4566. Restrictions on profit from jury service.
9 (a) Prohibition.--
10 (1) A juror may not receive anything of value in return
11 for describing or for consenting to the description of the
12 deliberations of the petit or grand jury on which the juror
13 serves.
14 (2) A person may not give anything of value to a juror
15 in return for describing or for consenting to the description
16 of the deliberations of the petit or grand jury on which the
17 juror serves.
18 (b) Penalty.--
1 (1) An individual who violates subsection (a)(1) commits
2 a misdemeanor of the second degree and shall, upon
3 conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $5,000 or to
4 imprisonment for not more than two years, or both, and to
5 forfeit to the Commonwealth the proceeds of the violation.
6 (2) A person who violates subsection (a)(2) commits a
7 misdemeanor of the second degree and shall, upon conviction,
8 be sentenced to pay a fine of $5,000 or to imprisonment for
9 not more than two years, or both.
10 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
