A RESOLUTION 1 Congratulating the public and private organizations, law 2 enforcement agencies and Philadelphia city officials involved 3 in making the 2000 Republican National Convention a success. 4 WHEREAS, Through the efforts of a variety of public and 5 private organizations, law enforcement agencies and Philadelphia 6 city officials, the Republican National Convention held in 7 Philadelphia from July 31 to August 3, 2000, was a remarkable 8 success; and 9 WHEREAS, Philadelphia 2000, the Host Committee for the 2000 10 Republican National Convention, engaged the support of 11 businesses, the community and civic leaders to provide first- 12 rate facilities and services for the convention and organized 13 events and activities to welcome delegates and members of the 14 media; and 15 WHEREAS, Convention organizers, charged with the huge task of 16 day-to-day convention planning, carefully executed plans 17 covering nearly all aspects of the convention; and
1 WHEREAS, Ensuring the safety and security of the 45,000 2 delegates, guests, members of the media and others in attendance 3 at the convention depended on the well-coordinated efforts of 4 the Philadelphia Police Department, the Pennsylvania State 5 Police and other law enforcement agencies; and 6 WHEREAS, The 2000 Republican National Convention focused a 7 national spotlight on the Philadelphia region as an outstanding 8 business, tourism and convention destination; therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the Senate express its gratitude to all who 10 worked to make the 2000 Republican National Convention such a 11 success and congratulate these many individuals and groups for a 12 job well done.
