        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 11, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating November 20, 2000, as "Firefighter, Emergency
     2     Medical Services, Rescue Squad and Fire Police Recognition
     3     Day" in Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, Firefighters, emergency medical services and rescue
     5  squad personnel and fire police risk their lives daily to
     6  protect the lives of the citizens of this Commonwealth; and
     7     WHEREAS, Individuals who provide emergency services have
     8  increasingly lost their lives in the performance of their unique
     9  duties; and


     1     WHEREAS, Societal changes have increased the dangers these
     2  individuals face daily in the performance of their duties as
     3  protectors of the citizens of this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, The time these individuals give to protect the lives
     5  of the citizens of this Commonwealth represents time taken away
     6  from their family members who graciously allow them to perform
     7  their duties, acknowledging the significance of what they do and
     8  the character and caring nature of firefighters, emergency
     9  medical services and rescue squad personnel and fire police;
    10  therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize all
    12  firefighters, emergency medical services and rescue squad
    13  personnel and fire police by extending thanks and appreciation
    14  to all who serve or have served the citizens of this
    15  Commonwealth with distinction; and be it further
    16     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
    17  November 20, 2000, as "Firefighter, Emergency Medical Services,
    18  Rescue Squad and Fire Police Recognition Day" in Pennsylvania;
    19  and be it further
    20     RESOLVED, That on this day all Statewide firefighters,
    21  emergency medical services and rescue squad personnel and fire
    22  police in this Commonwealth be honored at the Capitol as a sign
    23  of the heartfelt thanks of the Commonwealth's citizenry for
    24  their dedication, service and sacrifices, including the giving
    25  of their lives, in order to protect the citizens of this
    26  Commonwealth.
