        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 3, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the United States Army on the celebration of its 225th
     2     anniversary in 2000.

     3     WHEREAS, On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress met in
     4  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and resolved to form a continental
     5  army; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Continental Army was the forerunner to the
     7  United States Army; and
     8     WHEREAS, In June 2000 the United States Army celebrates its
     9  225th anniversary with a major event scheduled in Washington,
    10  D.C., entitled "Spirit of America," which will feature the 3d
    11  United States Infantry (The Old Guard) and the United States

     1  Army Band, known as "Pershing's Own"; and
     2     WHEREAS, The "Spirit of America" is a revival of a
     3  longstanding tradition started by the Military District of
     4  Washington in 1971 of dramatically depicting the origin and
     5  history of the United States Army; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the United
     7  States Army on the celebration of its 225th anniversary in 2000.
