A RESOLUTION 1 Requesting the Governor to release $100,000,000 of capital 2 budget funding for the US Airways maintenance facility 3 improvements at the Pittsburgh International Airport and to 4 devote all other necessary financial resources of the 5 Commonwealth to ensure that this significant economic 6 development project is successful. 7 WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a long history 8 of commitment to economic development investment to create and 9 retain jobs in Pennsylvania; and 10 WHEREAS, US Airways employs more than 11,000 Pennsylvanians 11 at the Pittsburgh International Airport, including 5,100 at the 12 maintenance facility; and 13 WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh International Airport is a regional 14 and national transportation hub; and
1 WHEREAS, Local government leaders in Allegheny County and 2 Beaver County have developed a financing plan to keep the US 3 Airways maintenance facility at the Pittsburgh International 4 Airport which calls for a $240 million public investment; and 5 WHEREAS, US Airways expects to invest up to $360 million in 6 the new maintenance facility; and 7 WHEREAS, The General Assembly has approved and the Governor 8 has signed Senate Bill 572 (Act 35 of 1999) which includes 9 funding of $100,000,000 for the US Airways maintenance facility 10 project; therefore be it 11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage the 12 Governor to commit to release the $100,000,000 provided for the 13 US Airways maintenance facility by Act 35 of 1999; and be it 14 further 15 RESOLVED, That the Governor be advised to pursue all other 16 possible means to increase by $140,000,000 the Commonwealth's 17 share of public funding for this important economic development 18 project in order to increase local tax revenues and retain more 19 than 5,000 jobs in western Pennsylvania.
