        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 19, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring November 6, 1999, as "Ida Tarbell Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Ida Minerva Tarbell was born on November 5, 1857, in
     4  Hatch Hollow, Pennsylvania and was raised in Titusville during
     5  the 1860s; and
     6     WHEREAS, Ida Tarbell entered Allegheny College in the fall of
     7  1876; and
     8     WHEREAS, Ida Tarbell was the author of 23 major books; and
     9     WHEREAS, Ida Tarbell pioneered historical research and set
    10  standards which professionals today strive to emulate; and
    11     WHEREAS, Ida Tarbell died on January 6, 1944, and was buried
    12  in Titusville; and
    13     WHEREAS, Ida Tarbell's passion for truth and knowledge is an
    14  enduring legacy for the citizens of this Commonwealth and
    15  deserves special recognition; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare November
     2  6, 1999, as "Ida Tarbell Day" in Pennsylvania.
