        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 27, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing Saturday, October 2, 1999, as "Philadelphia Making a
     2     Difference Against Drugs and Violence Day" in Philadelphia,
     3     Pennsylvania.

     4     WHEREAS, The city of Philadelphia is supporting "Philadelphia
     5  Making a Difference Against Drugs and Violence Day"; and
     6     WHEREAS, A citywide march, rally and intervention prevention
     7  awareness event is being held on Saturday, October 2, 1999; and
     8     WHEREAS, This event, organized by community, religious, civic
     9  and youth leaders, the Philadelphia Police Department and the
    10  Mayor's Drug Control Office, will send a clear message to
    11  children and youth that we will not allow drugs and violence to
    12  rob them of their future; and
    13     WHEREAS, In this much-needed display of civic pride and
    14  community spirit, Philadelphians will converge at City Hall on
    15  Saturday, October 2, 1999, from four separate corners of the

     1  city for a short rally and then march to Memorial Hall in
     2  Fairmount Park, where there will be a Tent of Hope providing
     3  information regarding services such as employment training,
     4  health issues and homeless assistance; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
     6  Saturday, October 2, 1999, as "Philadelphia Making a Difference
     7  Against Drugs and Violence Day" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
     8  and urge all citizens to support this effort aimed at reducing
     9  violence and drug use among city youth.
