                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), entitled "An
     2     act to consolidate, editorially revise, and codify the public
     3     welfare laws of the Commonwealth," further providing for
     4     eligibility for RESET program.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  The definition of "work-related activity" in
     8  section 402 of the act of June 13, 1967 (P.L.31, No.21), known
     9  as the Public Welfare Code, amended May 16, 1996 (P.L.175,
    10  No.35), is amended to read:
    11     Section 402.  Definitions.--As used in this article, unless
    12  the content clearly indicates otherwise:
    13     * * *
    14     "Work-related activity" means participation in any one or a
    15  combination of the following education or training activities:
    16     (i)  subsidized employment;
    17     (ii)  work experience;


     1     (iii)  on-the-job training;
     2     (iv)  community service;
     3     (v)  workfare;
     4     (vi)  job search, whether independent or assisted, and job
     5  readiness/preparation activities;
     6     (vii)  vocational education training or job skills training;
     7     (viii)  any employment and training program funded or
     8  approved by the department that provides one-stop access to
     9  intensive case management, training, education, job readiness
    10  training, job search and individual job development that leads
    11  to job placement;
    12     (ix)  any employment and training program funded or approved
    13  by the department that provides activities for a cash assistance
    14  applicant or recipient to achieve rapid attachment to the work
    15  force;
    16     (x)  in the case of a recipient eighteen years of age or
    17  older and less than twenty-two years of age, general education
    18  that is necessary for the recipient to obtain employment, a high
    19  school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency,
    20  subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory progress as
    21  defined by the school or educational program; and
    22     (xi)  additional activities as specified by the department in
    23  regulations.
    24     (xii)  Enrollment in and attendance either full time or part
    25  time at any of the following:
    26     (A)  A postsecondary educational degree or certificate
    27  program.
    28     (B)  Work-study or community service through Americorps.
    29     (C)  Any other college or university program or internship,
    30  paid or unpaid.

     1     Section 2.  Section 405.1(a.2) of the act is amended by
     2  adding a clause to read:
     3     Section 405.1.  Establishment of RESET.--* * *
     4     (a.2)  In accordance with RESET, the following requirements
     5  shall apply:
     6     * * *
     7     (6.1)  A recipient who is a postsecondary student enrolled
     8  either full time or part time in a degree or certificate program
     9  may apply weekly class credit hours toward the weekly work
    10  requirement under this program. The department may promulgate
    11  regulations to implement this clause.

    13     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
