SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 105 Session of 1997


        INTRODUCED BY SALVATORE, TOMLINSON, AFFLERBACH, STOUT, WILLIAMS,
           BELAN, LEMMOND, LAVALLE, MURPHY, RHOADES, BRIGHTBILL, FUMO,
           STAPLETON, GERLACH, SLOCUM AND WOZNIAK, NOVEMBER 24, 1997

        REFERRED TO INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS, NOVEMBER 24, 1997

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Congress of the United States to enact
     2     legislation to provide veterans' benefits to the veterans of
     3     the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of the Philippines who
     4     served with either active or guerrilla forces in support of
     5     United States military operations against hostile forces
     6     during World War II.

     7     WHEREAS, The members of both active and guerrilla forces of
     8  the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of the Philippines fought
     9  valiantly in support of United States military operations
    10  against hostile forces during World War II; and
    11     WHEREAS, These brave veterans' of the Armed Forces of the
    12  Commonwealth of the Philippines are currently not eligible for
    13  veterans' benefits provided through the Department of Veterans
    14  Affairs; and
    15     WHEREAS, These brave veterans of the Armed Forces of the
    16  Commonwealth of the Philippines deserve the same benefits as
    17  this country's veterans with whom they served; therefore be it
    18     RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    19  memorialize Congress to enact legislation that would enable the


     1  veterans of the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of the
     2  Phillippines who served during World War II with either active
     3  or guerrilla forces to reward the same veterans' benefits
     4  available to the veterans of the armed forces of the United
     5  States; and be it further
     6     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     7  the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
     8  member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
