                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, providing for health insurance premium
     3     assistance payments for certain retired employees.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 71 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 5711.  Health insurance premium assistance.
     9     (a)  Eligibility.--An annuitant who is 65 years of age or
    10  older, has 15 or more eligibility points and is not enrolled in
    11  a Commonwealth-sponsored health insurance plan shall receive
    12  health insurance premium assistance payments of $55 per month.
    13     (b)  Payment.--Health insurance premium assistance payments
    14  shall be made directly to insurance carriers by the board.
    15     (c)  Application.--An annuitant who is eligible to receive
    16  health insurance premium assistance payments shall file an
    17  application to be covered by a medical insurance carrier
    18  approved by the board and to receive the assistance payments.

     1  Payments shall begin on the effective date of the health
     2  insurance coverage provided by the health insurance carriers
     3  approved by the board.
     4     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
