A RESOLUTION
1 Declaring the month of March 1998 as "Pennsylvania Middle School
2 Education Month."
3 WHEREAS, Middle level education has a special and unique
4 function in the nation's educational system; and
5 WHEREAS, Young adolescents are undergoing dramatic physical,
6 social, emotional and intellectual growth and are especially
7 vulnerable; and
8 WHEREAS, The habits and values established during early
9 adolescence have critical, lifelong influence; and
10 WHEREAS, This influence affects the future health and welfare
11 of our nation; and
12 WHEREAS, An adequate public understanding of the distinctive
1 mission of the middle level school is necessary for that mission
2 to succeed; and
3 WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all in the educational
4 community and the larger community to have high expectations of
5 students, educators, schools, parents and community members for
6 middle school students to achieve and develop to their fullest
7 potential; therefore be it
8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the month
9 of March 1998 as "Pennsylvania Middle School Education Month";
10 and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That the public be afforded special opportunities
12 to visit middle schools and participate in programs that focus
13 on the nature of young adolescents and celebrate the ways in
14 which our nation's schools respond to their needs and to the
15 needs of the nation; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That the public be encouraged to commit to working
17 with schools to provide the highest standard of schooling and
18 highest expectations for all adolescents and adults working with
19 them.
