A RESOLUTION
1 Directing the Transportation Committee to study the provisions
2 of Act 3 of 1997.
3 WHEREAS, Act 3 of 1997 contained several provisions that will
4 have an effect on trucking and truck trailers in this
5 Commonwealth; and
6 WHEREAS, The Congress of the United States is poised to act
7 on a reauthorization of the Surface Transportation Act, known as
8 ISTEA; and
9 WHEREAS, A new ISTEA Act could contain major truck weight,
10 height and length provisions; and
11 WHEREAS, There have been many conflicting reports following
12 passage of Act 3 of 1997 as to the effect on motorists regarding
13 the act's truck provisions; and
14 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives would like to present
15 to the public a better understanding of the aforementioned
1 provisions; therefore be it
2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the
3 Transportation Committee to study the provisions of Act 3 of
4 1997 as they relate to trucks and truck safety and proposals for
5 ISTEA reauthorization relating to the same subject; and be it
6 further
7 RESOLVED, That this study may include, but not be limited to,
8 informational meetings, public hearings, summary of findings,
9 legislation or any other items found necessary by the committee.
