        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 3, 1997

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating Waynesboro on the celebration of its 200th
     2     Anniversary in 1997.

     3     WHEREAS, In 1797 John Wallace, Jr. of Washington Township,
     4  Franklin County, founded and laid out a town of 90 plots known
     5  then as Waynesburg; and
     6     WHEREAS, The town changed its name to Waynesborough in 1818;
     7  and
     8     WHEREAS, In 1831 the town was incorporated and the name
     9  Waynesboro was adopted; and
    10     WHEREAS, The residents of Waynesboro celebrated the borough's
    11  centennial in 1897 and its sesquicentennial in 1947; and
    12     WHEREAS, The residents of Waynesboro are celebrating the
    13  borough's bicentennial in 1997; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate
    15  Waynesboro on the celebration of its 200th Anniversary in 1997.
