HOUSE BILL

                                     AN ACT

     1  Making appropriations from the Workmen's Compensation
     2     Administration Fund to the Department of Labor and Industry
     3     and the Department of Community and Economic Development to
     4     provide for the expenses of administering the Workers'
     5     Compensation Act, The Pennsylvania Occupational Disease Act
     6     and the Office of Small Business Advocate for the fiscal year
     7     July 1, 1997, to June 30, 1998, and for the payment of bills
     8     incurred and remaining unpaid at the close of the fiscal year
     9     ending June 30, 1997.

    10     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    11  hereby enacts as follows:
    12     Section 1.  The sum of $42,941,000, or as much thereof as may
    13  be necessary, is hereby appropriated from the Workmen's
    14  Compensation Administration Fund to the Department of Labor and
    15  Industry for the payment of all salaries, wages and other
    16  compensation and travel expenses, for contractual services and
    17  other expenses necessary for the administration of the act of
    18  June 2, 1915 (P.L.736, No.338), known as the Workers'
    19  Compensation Act, and the act of June 21, 1939 (P.L.566,
    20  No.284), known as The Pennsylvania Occupational Disease Act, for
    21  the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1997, and for the payment of

     1  bills incurred and remaining unpaid at the close of the fiscal
     2  year ending June 30, 1997.
     3     Section 2.  The sum of $192,000 is hereby appropriated from
     4  the restricted revenue account within the Workmen's Compensation
     5  Administration Fund to the Office of Small Business Advocate in
     6  the Department of Community and Economic Development as provided
     7  in the act of June 2, 1915 (P.L.736, No.338), known as the
     8  Workers' Compensation Act, for the operation of the Office of
     9  Small Business Advocate.
    10     Section 3.  The sum of $10,000,000, or as much thereof as may
    11  be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of the surplus of the
    12  Workmen's Compensation Administration Fund to the Department of
    13  Labor and Industry for the operating expenses of the Bureau of
    14  Workers' Compensation.
    15     Section 4.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1997, or
    16  immediately, whichever is later.
