AN ACT
1 Making appropriations from a restricted revenue account within
2 the General Fund and from Federal augmentation funds to the
3 Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. The following sums, or as much thereof as may be
7 necessary, are specifically appropriated from the restricted
8 revenue account within the General Fund and from Federal
9 augmentation funds to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission
10 to provide for the operation of the commission for the fiscal
11 year July 1, 1997, to June 30, 1998, for the purposes and in the
12 amounts shown:
13 Federal State
14 (1) For the salaries, wages
15 and all necessary expenses for the
16 proper operation and administration
17 of the Pennsylvania Public Utility
1 Commission, including the chairman
2 and commissioners and the Bureau of
3 Safety and Enforcement. <--
4 State appropriation........ $37,008,000
5 SAFETY AND ENFORCEMENT AND <--
6 INCLUDING THE AMOUNT OF $300,000 TO
7 BE DEDICATED FOR THE USE OF A TOLL-
8 FREE ELECTRIC CHOICE INFORMATION
9 HOTLINE TO ASSIST CUSTOMERS WITH
10 QUESTIONS CONCERNING ELECTRIC
11 COMPETITION.
12 STATE APPROPRIATION........ 37,657,000
13 (i) The following Federal
14 augmentation amounts, or as
15 much thereof as may be
16 necessary, are specifically
17 appropriated to supplement the
18 sum authorized to be billed to
19 utilities for the operation of
20 the commission:
21 (A) "Natural Gas
22 Pipeline Safety" - To
23 enforce the regulations of
24 the Natural Gas Pipeline
25 Safety Act.
26 Federal appropriation...... 250,000
27 Any Federal funds which the
28 Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission
29 receives pursuant to these
30 appropriations shall not be credited

1 to any utility nor used to lower the
2 annual assessment of any utility.
3 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1997, or
4 immediately, whichever is later.
