                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival as "The Official
     2     Shakespeare Festival of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."

     3     WHEREAS, In 1992, the Reverend Gerard J. Schubert founded the
     4  Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival at Allentown College; and
     5     WHEREAS, Seasonal attendance at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare
     6  Festival has grown from more than 10,000 people in 1992 to more
     7  than 22,000 people in 1995; and
     8     WHEREAS, More than 25,000 people are expected to see the 1997
     9  productions of Julius Caesar, The Comedy of Errors and Shaw's
    10  Arms and the Man; and
    11     WHEREAS, The audience comes from as many as 11 different
    12  states; and
    13     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival continues its
    14  rise to national prominence; and
    15     WHEREAS, The preeminent regional theatre critics have
    16  declared the festival as "one of the major presenters of the
    17  Bard's plays" and called its productions "the most significant
    18  theatre events of the year"; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the Senate declare the Pennsylvania
     2  Shakespeare Festival as "The Official Shakespeare Festival of
     3  the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."
