AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," regulating the appointment of school 6 directors in first class and first class A districts. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. Section 302(a) of the act of March 10, 1949 10 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, 11 amended June 2, 1965 (P.L.86, No.59), is amended to read: 12 Section 302. Number and Appointment in Districts First Class 13 and First Class A; Reorganized District of First Class A 14 Containing Former Districts of Second, Third or Fourth Class: 15 Terms of Office.--(a) In each school district of the first 16 class or of the first class A, the board shall be known as the 17 "Board of Public Education," and shall consist of fifteen (15) 18 school directors, whose term of office shall be six (6) years. 19 The terms of five of the members shall expire on the second
1 Monday of November of each odd numbered year, as now provided by 2 law. The judges of the courts of common pleas of the county in 3 which such school district is situated shall, in October of 4 every odd numbered year, appoint [five (5)] four (4) members for 5 terms of six (6) years; no more than two (2) of these members 6 may be from any one political party. Their term of office shall 7 begin on the second Monday of November next following their 8 appointment. No later than the fourth Monday in November, the 9 fourteen (14) members of the board shall convene and nominate an 10 individual from the qualified electors of the district to be 11 appointed, by the judges of the courts of common pleas of the 12 county in which such school district is situated, as the 13 fifteenth member of the board. His term of office shall begin on 14 the second Monday of December next following his appointment and 15 be for a term to expire at the same time as the four appointees 16 of that same year. 17 * * * 18 Section 2.
