        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 9, 1996

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating April 22, 1996, as "Earth Day" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, Each year on April 22 the nation and the world
     3  celebrate "Earth Day" in recognition of the need to protect our
     4  environment; and
     5     WHEREAS, "Earth Day" is a time to renew our commitment to
     6  protecting the environment as well as to recognize our
     7  accomplishments in environmental protection; and
     8     WHEREAS, "Earth Day" is also a time to chart new directions
     9  and build new partnerships in exploring ways to be good stewards
    10  of our environment; and
    11     WHEREAS, Significant progress has been made in protecting our
    12  environment and natural resources since the first "Earth Day" 26
    13  years ago; and


     1     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is still confronted with the
     2  complicated environmental problems of global warming, the
     3  generation of toxic wastes and the contamination of groundwater;
     4  therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
     6  22, 1996, as "Earth Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives renew its
     8  dedication and commitment to the protection of Pennsylvania's
     9  environment and natural resources.
