        INTRODUCED BY LUCYK, O'BRIEN, EGOLF, HUTCHINSON, BEBKO-JONES,
           CORRIGAN, TIGUE, KAISER, KELLER, LEDERER, MIHALICH, ROEBUCK,
           THOMAS, HENNESSEY, LEH, STERN, DEMPSEY, FAIRCHILD, ZUG,
           MARSICO, WAUGH AND NAILOR, MARCH 15, 1996

        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 15, 1996

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) on the
     2     occasion of its 50th Anniversary.

     3     WHEREAS, For a half century, PVA has been instrumental in
     4  promoting and advancing the interests of veterans with spinal
     5  cord injury and dysfunction, their dependents and all people
     6  with disabilities; and
     7     WHEREAS, Established in 1946, PVA received a charter from the
     8  Congress of the United States. The PVA has earned recognition
     9  for its record of achievement over the past 50 years and for its
    10  vital role in improving the lives of its members and other
    11  people with disabilities; and
    12     WHEREAS, PVA has been a leader in many areas through a
    13  variety of programs. Through close monitoring and tracking of
    14  health care reform efforts, the Health Policy Department assists
    15  policy makers in assuring the delivery of quality health care to
    16  veterans; and


     1     WHEREAS, The Research and Education Program is a leader in
     2  pioneering research on spinal cord dysfunction and education,
     3  benefiting not only PVA members, but all Americans with spinal
     4  cord dysfunction; and
     5     WHEREAS, The Sports and Recreation Program sponsors a wide
     6  range of athletic events, including the National Veterans
     7  Wheelchair Games, and the Architecture and Barrier Free Design
     8  Program works diligently to promote the design of accessible
     9  buildings, facilities and projects; and
    10     WHEREAS, PVA's 59 service offices across the country have
    11  assisted more than 85,000 veterans, their dependents and
    12  survivors in obtaining quality health care and appropriate
    13  benefits; and
    14     WHEREAS, PVA promotes the needs of members and all people
    15  with disabilities through its national network of 34 chapters,
    16  increasing the rights, quality of life and productivity of all
    17  people with disabilities. Veterans and people with disabilities
    18  in this Commonwealth greatly benefit from these diligent
    19  efforts; therefore be it
    20     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
    21  congratulate the Paralyzed Veterans of America on 50 years of
    22  commitment and service to improving the lives of all Americans;
    23  and extend best wishes for a wonderful golden anniversary
    24  celebration.
