        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring March 12, 1996, as "Pennsylvania Arts in Education
     2     Day."

     3     WHEREAS, The arts enrich the lives of all citizens of this
     4  Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, The arts provide a unique forum for millions of
     6  young people to express their feelings, emotions and thoughts in
     7  a safe and productive way; and
     8     WHEREAS, It is important that our toddlers, adolescents,
     9  teenagers and young adults all be encouraged to explore their
    10  creative abilities; and
    11     WHEREAS, Art is an expression of ourselves, our individual
    12  personalities, our communities and our heritages and comment on

     1  how we see life; and
     2     WHEREAS, A good imagination, teamed with guidance and
     3  support, can lead children to appreciate existing art forms and
     4  foster an interest in developing their own creativity that will
     5  continue throughout life; and
     6     WHEREAS, Children, from their earliest years, find joy,
     7  discipline and self-worth in the expression of their artistic
     8  instincts; and
     9     WHEREAS, School arts programs nurture in students knowledge
    10  of and appreciation for the arts of our own cultures and those
    11  of others; and
    12     WHEREAS, Education of our children is the foundation upon
    13  which the future of this Commonwealth is built; and
    14     WHEREAS, Art enhances our quality of life by helping to
    15  define a nation's and a community's identity; and
    16     WHEREAS, The arts affect every aspect of life in the United
    17  States today, including education, the economy, social problem-
    18  solving, job creations, creativity and community livability; and
    19     WHEREAS, The work and dedication of arts educators, artists
    20  in education and their students will continue to enliven the
    21  hearts and lift the spirits of our citizens; and
    22     WHEREAS, Arts educators and artists in education from the
    23  several artistic disciplines have come together in the State
    24  Capitol to support the common principles and values conveyed by
    25  and through the arts; therefore be it
    26     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare March 12,
    27  1996, as "Pennsylvania Arts in Education Day"; and be it further
    28     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend school
    29  art educators and artists in education, and thank them for their
    30  service to our children and to our Commonwealth.
