        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 9, 1995

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Urging the Governor to proclaim the week of May 14 through 20,
     2     1995, as "Transportation Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The vitality and history of transportation have been
     4  linked with the economic heritage and future of this
     5  Commonwealth; and
     6     WHEREAS, A good transportation system, a means for both the
     7  transport of commerce and of recreation for visitors and
     8  residents, is essential to the mobility of all Pennsylvanians
     9  and to the growth and development of this Commonwealth; and
    10     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is fortunate to have 116,000 miles of
    11  public streets and roads, over 55,000 bridges, 151 public use
    12  and 350 private airports, a rail system extending 6,000 miles,
    13  42 public transportation transit systems and ports in
    14  Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie; and
    15     WHEREAS, To promote economic growth and development, there
    16  has been and continues to be a need for steady progress to
    17  improve the condition of this Commonwealth's vast transportation


     1  system; and
     2     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania, in order to ensure its economic
     3  vitality, must be dedicated to completing key segments of its
     4  transportation system and to enhance the intermodal aspects of
     5  the State's transportation requirements; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives request that the
     7  Governor proclaim the week of May 14 through 20, 1995, as
     8  "Transportation Week" in Pennsylvania.
