           SCHULER, CORRIGAN, LESCOVITZ, COWELL, E. Z. TAYLOR, BELFANTI,
           HERSHEY, TIGUE, BISHOP, BATTISTO, TULLI, ROONEY, STABACK,
           GEIST, BROWNE, STEELMAN, GIGLIOTTI, TRELLO, ITKIN AND
           RICHARDSON, MARCH 20, 1995

        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 20, 1995

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the efforts and achievements of The Harrisburg
     2     Internship Semester also known as the "THIS" program.

     3     WHEREAS, The Harrisburg Internship Semester, known as THIS,
     4  an internship program coordinated by the Dixon University Center
     5  for the fourteen universities of the Pennsylvania State System
     6  of Higher Education began internship placements for the best and
     7  brightest State System students during the 1990 spring academic
     8  semester; and
     9     WHEREAS, THIS participants are placed with a State
    10  legislative or executive office to assist that office with the
    11  performance of its duties and to explore the public policy
    12  dimensions of their respective majors; and
    13     WHEREAS, During the program's five years of existence, 111
    14  students from 28 different majors have provided many high-level
    15  State government officials with excellent research assistance in
    16  numerous major projects and policy initiatives; and

     1     WHEREAS, Nine past program participants have completed or are
     2  attending law school, eighteen past program participants have
     3  gone on to graduate school to pursue master degrees in
     4  economics, public administration, environmental planning,
     5  communications, labor relations and higher education
     6  administration; and
     7     WHEREAS, Many past program participants have remained in
     8  State government on a full-time basis; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
    10  recognize the outstanding achievements of the THIS program and
    11  its participants and express its appreciation to past and
    12  present participants and faculty coordinators.
