        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS,

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the President of the United States and Congress to
     2     appoint a national commission to investigate racism.

     3     WHEREAS, Racism has been perpetuated in our society for many
     4  years; and
     5     WHEREAS, A closer examination of the impact of racism and why
     6  it is still so prevalent in 1995 needs to be undertaken; and
     7     WHEREAS, A national commission on the impact of racism could
     8  hopefully benefit socioeconomically distressed communities;
     9  therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    11  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the President of the
    12  United States and Congress to appoint a national commission to
    13  investigate the impact of economic, social and governmental
    14  policies and institutional racism on socioeconomically
    15  distressed communities; and be it further
    16     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    17  the President of the United States, to the presiding officers of


     1  each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from
     2  Pennsylvania.
