                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Proclaiming February 1995 as "Catholic Schools Appreciation
     2 Month" in Pennsylvania.

3 WHEREAS, The success of our Catholic schools relies on the
4 dedication of their teachers and the support of their parents
5 and parishes. Working closely with students and their families,
6 Catholic schools provide opportunities to our children that they
7 may not have otherwise; and
8 WHEREAS, The education our young people receive is the
9 cornerstone of their lives. Catholic schools provide a strong
    10  foundation to develop a child's self-esteem and self-confidence;
    11 and
12 WHEREAS, Strongly committed to the traditional tenets of an
13 education that both challenges the mind and builds the
14 character, Catholic Schools have played a vital role in
    15 America's educational structure; and

1 WHEREAS, Unerringly dedicated to the belief that education
2 involves not only the child but also the family and the parish,
3 Catholic Schools have continually sought to offer opportunities
4 to our children that they might not otherwise know; and
5 WHEREAS, A Catholic school education prepares our children to
6 meet the challenges they will face as the leaders of tomorrow.
7 Through lessons in community responsibility, children learn that
8 effective leaders must first serve the needs of others. Catholic
9 schools are more than just schools; they are a community of
    10 support and friendship; and
11 WHEREAS, Through the dedication of teaching staffs that are
12 truly committed to the values that have made Catholic schools
    13 such a unique educational opportunity, Pennsylvania's 900
14 Catholic schools have achieved a dropout rate that is less than
15 3% a year, while seeing about 80% of their graduates go on to
    16 college; therefore be it
17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
18 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby proclaim the month of
19 February 1995 as "Catholic Schools Appreciation Month" in
20 Pennsylvania, in recognition of the value of Catholic school
    21 education.
