                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for required financial
     3     responsibility.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1786(d) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a paragraph to read:
     8  § 1786.  Required financial responsibility.
     9     * * *
    10     (d)  Suspension of registration and operating privilege.--
    11     * * *
    12         (3)  The owner or registrant has previously been a clean
    13     risk for at least three years and the financial
    14     responsibility coverage required by this chapter has lapsed
    15     for a period not exceeding 90 days. Such owner or registrant
    16     may, in lieu of receiving a suspension of registration and


     1     operating privilege, pay the following fines to the
     2     department:
     3             (i)   $100 on days 1 to 60 following the initial date
     4         on which financial responsibility lapsed.
     5             (ii)  $200 on days 61 to 90 following the initial
     6         date on which financial responsibility lapsed.
     7  This paragraph shall not excuse an owner or registrant whose
     8  financial responsibility has lapsed from any other fines or
     9  penalties which may be imposed under this title.

    11     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
