                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of January 25, 1966 (1965 P.L.1546, No.541),
     2     entitled "An act providing scholarships and providing funds
     3     to secure Federal funds for qualified students of the
     4     Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who need financial assistance to
     5     attend postsecondary institutions of higher learning, making
     6     an appropriation, and providing for the administration of
     7     this act," further providing for the length of scholarships.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Section 8(a) of the act of January 25, 1966 (1965
    11  P.L.1546, No.541), entitled "An act providing scholarships and
    12  providing funds to secure Federal funds for qualified students
    13  of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who need financial
    14  assistance to attend postsecondary institutions of higher
    15  learning, making an appropriation, and providing for the
    16  administration of this act," amended October 5, 1994 (P.L.568,
    17  No.83), is amended to read:


     1     Section 8.  (a)  Each State scholarship is renewable until
     2  the program of study is completed, but not to exceed an
     3  additional [three] four academic years beyond the first year of
     4  the award or beyond an additional four academic years for
     5  students enrolled in five-year undergraduate programs of study
     6  approved by the agency. These may not necessarily be consecutive
     7  years and the scholarship will be terminated if the student
     8  receives his degree in a shorter period of time. Qualifications
     9  for renewal will include maintaining satisfactory academic
    10  standing, making normal progress toward completion of the course
    11  of study, and continued eligibility as determined by the agency
    12  including continual legal residency.

    14     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1995, or
    15  immediately, whichever is later.
