AN ACT 1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 2 Statutes, prohibiting passengers from riding in an uncovered 3 truck body. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Section 3706 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania 7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read: 8 § 3706. Riding [in house trailers, mobile homes or boats on 9 trailers] in and on certain vehicles prohibited. 10 (a) General rule.--No person or persons shall occupy a house 11 trailer, mobile home or boat on a trailer while it is being 12 moved upon a highway. 13 (a.1) Uncovered truck bodies.--No person shall occupy an 14 uncovered truck body while the vehicle is being moved upon an 15 interstate highway. 16 (b) Towing prohibited.--No person shall tow on a highway a 17 house trailer, mobile home or boat on a trailer occupied by a
1 passenger or passengers. 2 (c) [Exception for certain semitrailers] Exceptions.-- 3 (1) A semitrailer which is attached to a truck in an 4 articulating manner by means of a fifth wheel semitrailer 5 coupling device attached to the carrying compartment of the 6 truck may be occupied by a passenger or passengers. The 7 coupling device shall have a two-inch or larger kingpin. All 8 windows shall have safety glass. Some means of electrical or 9 electronic communications approved by the department is 10 required between the cab of the truck and the semitrailer. 11 (2) An uncovered truck body equipped by the manufacturer 12 with seats and seat belts may be occupied by as many persons 13 as there are seats with seat belts. 14 Section 2.
