        AS AMENDED ON THIRD CONSIDERATION, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
           MAY 22, 1995

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 51 (Military Affairs) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further providing for the Department
     3     of Health and for counties to furnish certified copies of
     4     documents without charge.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 9201(a) of Title 51 of the Pennsylvania
     8  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     9  § 9201.  Certified copies of documents furnished without charge.
    10     (a)  General rule.--Whenever application shall be made to the
    11  proper [county] public officer by or on behalf of any disabled
    12  war veteran, or member of the armed forces or their reserve
    13  components or the National Guard, of any war or armed conflict
    14  in which the United States has been, is now or shall hereafter
    15  be engaged, or by or on behalf of any dependent of any such

     1  veteran, or member of the armed forces OR THEIR RESERVE           <--
     2  COMPONENTS OR THE NATIONAL GUARD, for a certified copy of any
     3  death certificate, birth certificate, marriage certificate or
     4  decree of divorce, for use in connection with any claim for
     5  death benefits, compensation allowance, family or dependency
     6  allotment, it shall be the duty of such [county] public officer
     7  to furnish such certified copy free of any charge therefor
     8  provided for by any law of this Commonwealth. No divorce
     9  certificate shall be issued under this section unless said
    10  divorce action record shows all costs fully paid. As used in
    11  this section, the term "public officer" means an authorized
    12  official in the Department of Health as to any of the foregoing
    13  records in the possession of the Department of Health and the
    14  proper county officer as to any other records within this
    15  subsection.
