HOUSE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED BY GAMBLE, FAJT, TRUE, SERAFINI, BURNS, MANDERINO,
           LEDERER, CURRY, TULLI, NAILOR AND GIGLIOTTI,
           SEPTEMBER 26, 1994

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON TOURISM AND RECREATIONAL DEVELOPMENT,
           SEPTEMBER 26, 1994

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Extolling the cultural, artistic and educational resources
     2     available in this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, The humanities examine the value, purpose and
     4  meaning of life; offer a context to assess human endeavors;
     5  relate the contributions of science, technology, the arts and
     6  the social sciences to human concerns; and provide a means to
     7  appreciate and preserve culture; and
     8     WHEREAS, The humanities include the study of language, both
     9  modern and classical, linguistics, literature; history,
    10  jurisprudence; philosophy, archaeology; comparitive religion;
    11  ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those
    12  aspects of the social science which have humanistic content and
    13  employ humanistic methods and the study and application of the
    14  humanities to the current conditions of life; and
    15     WHEREAS, These endeavors shape Americans' memories, inform
    16  their present understanding of the world and direct their future
    17  visions; and

     1     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's cultural, educational and historical
     2  organizations support the national campaign and its theme, "The
     3  Arts and Humanities: There Is Something in It for You,"
     4  spearheaded by the National Cultural Alliance; and
     5     WHEREAS, The month of October has been designated as National
     6  Arts and Humanities month; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives pledge to support
     8  access to cultural and educational resources for all the people
     9  of this Commonwealth and call upon citizens to unite in their
    10  appreciation for the extraordinary variety of artistic endeavors
    11  and human expression, entreating everyone to discover, support,
    12  celebrate and participate in the activities and programs that
    13  continuously give meaning and significance to their daily lives.
