HOUSE RESOLUTION

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JUNE 16, 1994

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Appointing a special committee to study and report on riverboat
     2     gambling.

     3     WHEREAS, Riverboat gambling is under consideration as a
     4  source of revenue for the Commonwealth; and
     5     WHEREAS, Many jurisdictions have experience which can be
     6  vital to the General Assembly for understanding procedures
     7  necessary to protect local communities where riverboat gambling
     8  will be based; and
     9     WHEREAS, The best manner to ascertain local community rights
    10  is to hold public hearings; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives appoint five
    12  members of the House of Representatives, three from the Majority
    13  Party and two from the Minority Party; and be it further
    14     RESOLVED, That the Speaker of the House of Representatives
    15  designate one of the members as a chair of the committee; and be
    16  it further
    17     RESOLVED, That the committee hold hearings, take testimony


     1  and make its investigations at such places as it deems necessary
     2  in this Commonwealth and that each member of the committee have
     3  power to administer oaths and affirmations to witnesses
     4  appearing before the committee; and be it further
     5     RESOLVED, That the committee report to the House of
     6  Representatives on its activities, findings and recommendations
     7  by November 30, 1994; and be it further
     8     RESOLVED, That the expenses incurred by the committee in
     9  carrying out its responsibilities, including per diem and travel
    10  expenses incurred by members and regular staff, stenographic
    11  charges and other incidental expenses, be paid from appropriate
    12  accounts under the control of the Chief Clerk and be in addition
    13  to any other amount authorized for expenses for contractors,
    14  consultants and staff; and be it further
    15     RESOLVED, That, within 30 calendar days after the committee
    16  has made its report, the chair shall cause a record of all
    17  expenses incurred by the committee or its members which are
    18  payable at Commonwealth expense to be filed with the Chief
    19  Clerk.
