                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the President and the United States Congress to
     2     oppose placing limits on cost-of-living increases for Social
     3     Security recipients for the purpose of reducing the Federal
     4     deficit.

     5     WHEREAS, Social Security recipients have been receiving an
     6  automatic cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, every year since
     7  1975; and
     8     WHEREAS, Approximately 1.5 million retired older
     9  Pennsylvanians receive Social Security payments; and
    10     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks second only to Florida in
    11  percentage of population age 65 or older; and
    12     WHEREAS, Older Pennsylvanians on fixed incomes rely on Social
    13  Security COLAs to help them keep up with increasing costs of
    14  life essentials such as medications and groceries; therefore be
    15  it
    16     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    17  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the President and the

     1  United States Congress to oppose placing limits on cost-of-
     2  living increases for Social Security recipients for the purpose
     3  of reducing the Federal deficit; and be it further
     4     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
     5  the President of the United States, the presiding officers of
     6  each house of Congress and to each member of Congress from
     7  Pennsylvania.
