A RESOLUTION 1 Calling upon all Pennsylvanians to celebrate "National Library 2 Week," April 18 through 24, 1993. 3 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's system of 6,500 libraries with 4 holdings of over 97 million items is the most important part of 5 the State's information base; and 6 WHEREAS, Public libraries circulate more than 48 million 7 books and answer more than 7 million reference questions each 8 year; and 9 WHEREAS, Academic libraries circulate more than 9 million 10 items and borrow from or loan to other libraries another one- 11 half million items each academic year; and 12 WHEREAS, Four thousand two hundred and thirty-seven public 13 and private school libraries circulate more than 122 million 14 items per year; and 15 WHEREAS, Cooperative programs between libraries enable 16 11,747,799 Pennsylvanians to have access to information or 17 materials not available at the library being used; and
1 WHEREAS, Law libraries, medical school and hospital 2 libraries, institution libraries and corporate and business 3 libraries provide specialized information to aid the clientele 4 they serve; and 5 WHEREAS, Libraries throughout America are celebrating 6 "National Library Week" with the theme, "Libraries Change 7 Lives"; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join in the 9 celebration of "National Library Week," April 18 through 24, 10 1993, and encourage all Pennsylvanians to express their 11 appreciation for the important and valuable services available 12 at the libraries of this State.
